
Dorothy Mae Crothers was born on October 29, 1919 in Geary, OK to Samuel J. and Nancy Carolyn White Duncan. She passed away on March 26, 2016 i n Geary, OK at the age of 96 years 5 months. Dorothy lived in the Geary area all of her life and was a longtime member of the First Christian Church. During WWII she sewed clothes for the war effort. Dorothy was a telephone operator for Smithpeter Phone Co. where she operated the switch board. She told stories of a snowstorm where there were so many calls that she stood up, wrapped her arms around all the cords and jerked them out, disconnecting everyone. Also, handling the calls from the military to families losing loved ones during WWII. Dorothy was a perfectionist which was shown in her self-taught sewing, counted cross stitch, and crocheting. She cooked many years for harvest and farm hands in Geary as well as in a tiny travel trailer when they went north. Survivors Include: her daughters: Anna Jo Putman and husband Derril of Geary, OK, and Debbie Briscoe of El Reno, OK. Three grandchildren: Shawn Briscoe and wife Crystal of Geary, OK; Heather Carr and husband Eric of El Reno, OK; and Andrea Kerr and husband Shane of Midwest City, OK. Six great grandchildren: Lawren Kerr, Julya Carr, Kaleb Kerr, Khloe Carr, Casen and Cannon Briscoe. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Nancy Duncan, her husband, Lawrence M. Crothers, her nine brothers and sisters, Maude Snow, Millie Black, Zora Justice, Etta Kurtz, Marie Hoffman, Mary Carlley, Shub Duncan, Carl Duncan, and O.D. Duncan. Rev. Dick Kurtz officiated the service.
