Susan M. "Susie" Feagins Spurgeon

A funeral service for Susan M. "Susie" Feagins Spurgeon, age 52, was held Monday, November 13, 2017 at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Rusk. Visitation was from 12:00 noon up until service time, Monday, November 13, 2017. Burial followed at the Maverick Ranch Cemetery. Susie passed away November 9, 2017 at her residence known as the Maverick Ranch in Alto surrounded by her family. She was born January 9, 1965 in Houston, TX. Susie worked as a teacher, a paralegal and for the last several years as a Petroleum Landman. She graduated from Sam Houston State University and was Baptist by faith. Susie was a bright light in a dark world and she just wanted people to get along. She was pleasant in all weathers and never shirked a task. Her favorite time of the year was fall and she loved to cuddle up in a blanket with a good book. Susie was a great educator and was able to understand and put in exquisite English what people could not correctly illustrate with words. She could not control her joy and she allowed it to overcome her and would burst into contagious laughter. She loved adventure, comedy and fly fishing. Susie is survived by her loving husband, Cody Spurgeon of Alto and her special fur baby “Doc” who knew Susie as “Mama Bear”, special other brother, Shane T. Brockwell of Arkansas, bonus kids, Brittany and Rodney Willis of Mineola, TX, Jessica and Todd Carroll of Mineola, Cody P. Spurgeon of Ecuador, grandkids, Hayden Quillman, Piper Wiilis, Jase and Wyatt Carroll, mother-in-law, Ann Spurgeon of Alto, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sue Ann and Michael Crump of Rusk, daughter and son-in-law, Torey and Reading Cotton of Atascocita, TX, two sons, Connor Castleman of Kingwood, TX, Noble Castleman of Fort Bliss, TX, grandsons, Cullen and Hayes Reading, parents, Judy and Thomas Feagins of Kingwood, sister and brother-in-law, Kelly and Dennis Maxson, nephew, Gus Maxson, brother and sister-in-law, Matthew and Heather Feagins of Kingwood, niece and nephew, Colleen and Ryan Feagins. Pallbearers will include Shane T. Brockwell, Todd Carroll, Rodney Willis, Noble Castleman, Connor Castleman and Reading Cotton. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Thompson, Matthew Feagins and Dennis Maxson.
