Lola Frances Enlow (Alexander) died peacefully in Overland Park, Kansas on March 10, 2017 at the age of 95. Lola is survived by her children Joleen from Junction City, Kansas and Keith and his wife Marguerite of Overland Park, Kansas, her grandchildren Drew (Emily) from San Jose, California and Jacob (Lindsay) from Olathe, Kansas, great-grandchildren Julie and Logan, siblings Dorothy Caulk of Hennessey, Oklahoma, Ellen Henley of Perry, Oklahoma, James Alexander of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, and Fred (Twila) Alexander of Canton, Oklahoma, many beloved nieces, nephews and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Omer Keith Enlow, parents James and Viola Alexander, siblings Elnora, Darlene, and Ray Dean, and stepmother Mae (Hughes), Lola was born on August 25, 1921 in Okeene, Oklahoma and grew up on a farm southeast of Canton. She graduated from Canton High School and then the Nursing School at Enid General Hospital in 1945, with her R.N. After graduation she joined the staff at Enid General as a surgical supervisor. She married Omer, a farmer-rancher in 1946. They made their home on the Enlow homestead in the Hitchcock area. She worked at the Watonga Municipal Hospital and the Watonga doctors’ clinic before joining the U.S. Public Health Service Indian Clinic in 1961, where she worked for over 22 years as a clinic nurse and facility director. Lola was very active in the Watonga community and she thoroughly enjoyed keeping up with her friends and neighbors as a hostess with the House family at the End O’Main restaurant on Saturday evenings. She was accomplished at all types of needlework, particularly intricately detailed crocheting and beautifully detailed quilts. She enjoyed collecting Madam Alexander dolls, being a member of the ’21 Club, walking thousands of miles around the Watonga High School track and making home-made cinnamon rolls, angel food cakes and noodles for church events and the Watonga Cheese Festival annual dinners. She was an active and dedicated member of the Watonga United Methodist Church for over 40 years, the United Methodist Women and the Ladies Circle. In her later years, Lola moved to be closer to her family in Kansas. Although Oklahoma was always her home and she never really converted from being a Sooner to a Jayhawk, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and made many new friends at the Rose Estates in Overland Park. A funeral service was scheduled for Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the Watonga United Methodist Church,. . A reception followed in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Watonga United Methodist Church.
